L. JAY OLIVA: BIOGRAPHY
An expert on Russian history, Dr. L. Jay Oliva currently teaches in the NYU European and
Mediterranean studies and history departments, as well as in the SCPS program in fundraising. He
was the president of NYU from 1991–2002 after spending more than three decades in academic and
administrative positions at the University. In addition, he serves as executive producer and chair
of the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. He is the co-founder of the George H. Heyman, Jr.
Center for Philanthropy and Fundraising.
