and Corporate Communication

CONCENTRATIONS

You select one of the following two concentrations, which build on the foundation attained through the core coursework.

PUBLIC RELATIONS MANAGEMENT
This concentration focuses on understanding the objectives and strategies that shape the types of information that are delivered to specific audiences. You gain essential leadership and management training that is applicable to companies, nonprofit organizations, governments, and individuals. Graduates are prepared to fill positions as directors, consultants, managers, negotiators, recruiters, and counselors in the fields of human resources, customer relations, advertising, labor relations, public information, and sales, among others. Some find technical positions as writers, editors, or researchers in publishing, broadcasting, or internal communications. Many will work in public relations firms, advertising agencies, or marketing firms. Job opportunities are also available in nonprofit and governmental organizations like the United Way, the American Red Cross, and the United Nations.

CORPORATE AND ORGANIZATIONAL COMMUNICATION
This concentration examines the complex communicative behaviors that occur in corporate and organizational settings. One of the most visible areas of public relations today, partly due to recent scandals, corporate communications promotes a consistent, well-informed, and ethical voice across an organization. The concentration in corporate and organizational communication prepares you for positions in a variety of private organizations and businesses, including corporations, government agencies, political parties, financial institutions, economic development firms, and educational institutions. Job positions include directors, managers, lobbyists, consultants, and representatives in areas such as human resources, internal communications, training, staffing, marketing, management, and organizational development.
