The PR League is the student organization that serves all PRCC students. By working with faculty, administration, and industry leaders, the club seeks to enhance the master's program on an academic, social, and professional level.
The PR League hosts book swaps and study groups, and students have often filtered individual concerns and suggestions through the executive council. The club also maintains subscriptions to various publications, allowing students to research current events within the discipline.
The group's largest successes have come in the area of professional development. The executive council maintains a listserv that regularly notifies students of job postings and professional events relevant to the program. Each semester, the PR League hosts a networking event for all PRCC students. The event features a panel of industry professionals who speak about their backgrounds. Students have the opportunity to hear from entry-level communicators as well as top-level management.
The PR League was founded in the fall of 2005 by the inaugural council of President Ernie Grigg, Vice President Laurel Hart, Treasurer Vanessa Q. Tremarco, Secretary Julie Mlakar, and SCPS Representative Heather Yacouby. The current executive council includes President Bettina Garibaldi, Vice President Veronica Wasserman, Treasurer Alexandra Scott, Secretary C. Thayer Fox, and SCPS Representative Thea Linscott.
The officers, and especially Ernie Grigg, have been critical to the success of the first two years of our graduate program.
As the program expands, students rely on the club to meet classmates who may have similar interests. Informal social gatherings have been a major part of club operations, and the recent addition of a MySpace page has allowed students to interact electronically.
