"Sometimes, I think I’ve learned more from the students than they have from me."
I’ve taught at NYU since 2004 and spent more than 30 years in public relations and corporate
communications–yet sometimes I
think I’ve learned more from the students than they have from me. Each semester offers us both a
fresh challenge, since courses aren’t “off the shelf” and the curriculum is always being refreshed
and renewed to meet students’ needs. They have access to the best networking opportunities
possible, with each other as well as faculty and guest lecturers who have key contacts in their
fields, not to mention the depth of course offerings, on-site and online.
As a microcosm of New York City, NYU really attracts the best and brightest students and faculty
and the program is just as exciting and dynamic as the city itself. That also goes for the
students, who are smart, challenging, sophisticated, and eager to learn. I teach Strategic
Communications, Public Relations Writing Seminars, and Internet Copywriting and Corporate
Communication in the New Media Age. When it comes to the differences between NYU and other schools,
I think that we offer diverse and global courses to a diverse and global student body that's
ambitious, committed, and focused.
