CERTIFICATE IN PUBLIC RELATIONS

How do you reach the best people in the right media vehicle? In this age of information, almost every industry requires a coordinated and effective public relations effort to shape a company's or individual's strategy and build rapport with customers, voters, employees, stockholders, the general population, or competitors. This unique certificate is the culmination of a 30-year old curriculum with a faculty of industry professionals who bring invaluable present-day experiences into the classroom.Upon completion of the program, students have in-depth understanding of:

  • The fundamental principles and practices of a PR professional through lectures, workshops, case studies, and real-life applications of PR.
  • How to be a spokesperson for an organization and interact with the media.
  • How to prepare and execute a powerful PR campaign or press event.
  • How to publicize an event, organization, or individual.
  • How to produce and use the most effective PR tools--news releases, press kits, pitch letters, media conferences, satellite media tours, market-by-market media tours, press events, video news releases, and PSAs.This certificate is awarded to students who successfully complete five courses--three required, including one PR writing course, and two electives selected from those appearing in this section. Basic Public Relations Writing/X50.9293 is strongly recommended for those without any public relations experience.

    Nearly every industry today requires a coordinated and effective public relations effort. As one the 10 fastest growing professions over the next 10 years according to Fortune magazine, the focus of this program is to provide students with the unique opportunity to learn the business of PR in-depth from outstanding professionals in New York’s corporate, press, agency, and consulting worlds. These skills are developed through interactive lectures, demonstrations, assignments, and feedback sessions. This intensive program gives you a practical blueprint for developing a successful public relations campaign based on a case study offered by a real-world client.

    Students receive a certificate of completion.

    Tuition includes complimentary continental breakfast daily and course materials from faculty. Textbook is purchased separately. A separate activity fee of $50 must be paid by a separate check or money order made payable to New York University the first day of the program. Students are encouraged to be available weekday evenings to work on team projects.
