MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Dear Prospective Student,

Welcome to the Center for Publishing, the only institution of its kind to offer three distinct pathways to publishing education. Our Master of Science in Publishing program invites students interested in advancing to management-level careers in book, magazine and digital publishing to pursue an extensive, in-depth education in these fields. Our Continuing Education and Certificate program provides an excellent introduction to the book and magazine industries for newcomers and a way for publishing professionals to improve their skills. For recent college graduates, we offer the Summer Publishing Institute, an intensive six-week immersion program.

This is a very exciting time in publishing. The industry is undergoing dramatic changes as traditional and digital media merge. Our goal is to provide you with the building blocks of publishing, including editing, marketing and promotion, advertising and sales, finance, management and law, and also to teach you the leading-edge digital strategies that all savvy publishing professionals need to know. To do this, we call upon our renowned faculty of editors, publishers, marketing and advertising directors, online editors and producers, lawyers, finance directors and other leading figures in the industry. They provide students with critical knowledge as well as important networking opportunities. In addition, the Center for Publishing runs a full roster of panel discussions and workshops on key publishing issues.
