CAREER DEVELOPMENT
PROSPECTS FOR REAL ESTATE INSTITUTE GRADUATES
As a graduate of the NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate, you leave with an industry-specific education that prepares you for the top echelon of your field. Our real estate alumni assume leadership positions throughout the world. Graduates work in all aspects of the industry, including full-service brokerage and advisory firms, Wall Street investment houses, owner/development companies, property and asset management companies, corporate real estate divisions, real estate capital groups, and entrepreneurial ventures. Alumni of our construction management program find advanced positions with developers, national and global construction firms, government agencies, corporations, institutions, consulting firms, and many others. You graduate with the skills to successfully run a construction business—from the largest global firm to the smallest independent company.
CAREER INFORMATION NIGHT AND CAREER FAIR
Throughout your course of study, you are presented with opportunities to probe and research the job market by networking with fellow students, faculty, and the many industry contacts you make through professional venues. Annual events, such as Career Information Night and Career Fair, bring you together with potential employers. Career Information Night is a special evening created for you to gather with peers and renowned industry experts in a relaxed yet elegant forum. Each year features a keynote speaker, and panels of alumni with various areas of specialization advise you and tackle questions about their particular arenas. Career Information Night also offers strategic information about sensitive issues that are not easily addressed during formal job interviews—from realistic salary expectations to the number of hours that truly compose a workweek. Often, guest speakers bring news of career opportunities and invite job seekers to apply. The annual Career Fair, one of the country’s largest such events, provides you with a unique opportunity to meet with representatives from key real estate firms and construction management companies for an open exchange of information.
NETWORKING AND PROFESSIONAL EVENTS
Networking opportunities are an important part of the graduate program, and we maintain strong industry connections that serve your career goals well. A variety of events—including a lecture series, roundtable discussions, and social events—centered on key topics and presented by industry executives, provides opportunities for you to meet alumni, develop insight into other aspects of the industry, and cultivate a positive network of colleagues. In addition, you are invited to attend the NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate-sponsored national conferences each year, two of which are traditionally held at the Waldorf -Astoria. These are major conferences for the industry and feature distinguished real estate and construction management leaders from the nation’s top firms as they examine current trends, share insights and strategies, and strengthen industry ties. Conferences include the following:
One of our most popular social events is the annual Monopoly Night. Students and alumni mix with senior members of the real estate industry in an informal, high-energy, people-packed, and fun setting for games of Monopoly®, dining, and dancing. The New York real estate and construction communities turn out in full force for this very special evening that provides an ideal framework for networking, community-building, and socializing.
