M.S. in Construction Management

CURRICULUM

The NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate’s Master of Science in Construction Management requires that students complete 36 credits including: a three-tiered core that provides you with a broad foundation for the entire discipline of construction management; a capstone; and one elective course to further enhance proficiency and broaden understanding of related areas, including real estate. Students can complete this program in two years of full-time study, or up to five years of part-time study.

CORE COURSES
The core curriculum of the graduate program in construction management is designed to provide a broad and deep foundation to serve you throughout your career.

Tier I courses lay the groundwork for understanding the basic underpinnings of the building industry, including such topics as understanding materials, design, and construction practices, as well as legal principles and contracts common to the construction industry, while developing the project manage- ment skills requisite for planning, scheduling, and control.

Tier II courses build upon the foundation laid in the first tier, examining the various approaches to quanti- fying and estimating specific project plans, the process of tracking and managing projects, company expenses, cost control and cash flow.

In Tier III, the emphasis is on the detailed tools and techniques for managing a construction organization, while also acquiring the skills and approaches needed for dispute resolution.

CAPSTONE COURSE
The capstone course encompasses and applies all prior coursework, and requires the production of a professional-quality research project. In each case, actual industry data and resources are researched and employed in the creation of a project.
