The NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate is an active member of many professional associations. Membership in these organizations provides yet another means of connecting to the professional community, access to events beyond New York City, and discounted admission to conferences across the country. Some of the organizations we are affiliated with include:
RICS—The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors is one of the most respected and high profile global standards and membership organizations for professionals involved in land, property, construction, and environmental issues. NYU is an accredited "University Partner" of RICS.
ULI—The Urban Land Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit research and education organization whose mission is to provide leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide. LAI—Lambda Alpha International is an honorary society that provides a forum for the advancement of land economics as well as the study and ethical practice of land use. D. Kenneth Patton, divisional dean of the Schack Institute, is chair of the New York chapter which sponsors forums and other events to enlighten the real estate community about current issues that are defining the real estate and land-use professions. In addition, each year a graduating master's student is awarded the Lambda Alpha Distinguished Service Award which is presented at the SCPS convocation ceremony.
MBA-NY—Mortgage Bankers Association of New York is the New York State affiliate of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America, the national trade association for real estate finance. Through its scholarship foundation MBA-NY funds grants and scholarships to current graduate students on a needs and merit basis. In addition, as a fundraising event for its scholarship foundation, MBA-NY sponsors a symposium addressing commercial real estate activities in the New York metropolitan area.
AREW—The Association of Real Estate Women is the real estate industry's longest-running and most consistent supporter of women real estate professionals. AREW's goal is to provide outstanding education programs and networking opportunities that contribute to the career growth of both women and men in all segments and levels of the real estate industry. AREW supports REI's master's programs by providing scholarships to current graduate students through its Scholarship Foundation and programs.
