Many academic and professional achievements preceded Constantine Kontokosta’s appointment as clinical assistant professor at the Schack Institute this past September.

Kontokosta has taught at the Institute since 2007 where he earned his M.S. in Real Estate. He also holds degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and from Columbia University where he expects to earn his Ph.D. in urban planning this spring. Kontokosta teaches such graduate courses as The Development Process, Land Use, and Environmental Regulation, and Green Buildings and Sustainable Development. This summer, he will conduct a special section of an international real estate development course in Berlin with Institute students.

“I want to give the next generation of industry leaders a careful balance of theoretical concepts and business skills,” Kontokosta says. “But I also aspire to provide a new measure for success that extends beyond financial feasibility to embrace environmental consciousness and social responsibility.” A licensed professional engineer, certified planner, and a LEED accredited professional, Kontokosta is the founder and principal of a development and investment company whose projects emphasize sustainability.

“I value teaching as an opportunity both for imparting the knowledge and skills relevant to success in real estate and learning through discussion and interaction with highly diverse and accomplished students,” says Kontokosta.

In addition to a long list of publications, memberships in professional associations, and awards, Kontokosta is an avid runner and mountaineer who has climbed extensively in the United States and Canada.
