In honor of its 30th anniversary and founding president, the Association of Real Estate Women (AREW) established the Merle Gross-Ginsburg Scholarship Award. Students in the Schack Institute’s graduate programs will be the inaugural recipients of this scholarship. The initial scholarship of $10,000 will be awarded in spring 2009 based on academic excellence and financial need.

A trailblazer in the male-dominated world of commercial real estate, Gross-Ginsburg was an adjunct faculty member during the Institute’s early years and a member of the powerful Real Estate Board of New York’s board of directors. Beginning in the late 1960s as a private investor and developer of renovated brownstones and cooperative apartments, she moved on to brokerage positions with the then Edward S. Gordon Company and the Kipp-Stawski Group. Philanthropic and community-minded, Gross-Ginsburg serves on the boards of several cultural, religious, and educational organizations.
