The Preston Robert Tisch Center

HISTORY AND MISSION

The City Is Our Laboratory, the Industry Is Our Faculty, Our Students Are the Future of the Profession.

Founded in 1995, the Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management at New York University was established in response to the growing need for higher education and training in the hospitality and tourism fields. By 1999, the Tisch Center sought to satisfy the growing needs of sports business professionals, incorporating the discipline of sports management into our academic portfolio. In 2008, we celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the renowned NYU International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference, hosted by Tisch Center students and faculty since 1997.

We recognize that hospitality, sports, and tourism are major economic sectors globally  and the Tisch Center provides a coherent series of learning opportunities to assist in their growth and well-being. Throughout our degrees, programs, and conferences, we aim to provide students with the tools to enable them to manage change, to communicate, and to reason in a complex workplace and to advance the business of hospitality, tourism, and sports. At the Tisch Center, the city is our laboratory, the industry is our faculty, and our students are the future of the profession.

The Tisch Center is named for Preston Robert "Bob" Tisch (1926-2005), a pioneer and visionary who was recognized throughout the world for his leadership within the hospitality, tourism, and sports industries. A consummate advocate for New York City for years, Mr. Tisch was chairman and co-CEO of the New York Giants and provided leadership within Loews Hotels and Loews Corporation. He served for 19 years as chair of the New York Convention and Visitors Bureau, where he was instrumental in spearheading the more than 30 award-winning “I Love New York” campaign. We believe there is no more positive role model for our students, the future leaders of industry, to emulate than Mr. Tisch.
