As of February 2010, the U.S. has been in a 26-month-long recession. The lodging hospitality industry has experienced record RevPAR decline and the lowest hotel occupancy rate in 38 years.
This new 30-minute audio briefing by the faculty of the NYU Tisch Center is the most comprehensive presentation to date on the impact of the recession on the U.S. lodging industry. It includes timely data about historical patterns of recovery from past U.S. recessions, the current outlook for recovery in specific chain scale and demand segments, and forecasts about revenues and profits. As well, the briefing summarizes long-term effects and implications for the hospitality industry.
This is the fourth in a series of audio briefings by the NYU Tisch Center faculty about the recession since fall 2008. These have become highly anticipated, “must listen to” presentations—the two prior briefings were downloaded by more than 2,500 lodging industry executives.
*This briefing was recorded on Monday, February 22, 2010. Any adjustments made by referenced firms after this date are not reflected in the analysis.
