A Message From Dr. Lalia Rach

What an amazing semester for Tisch Center students, alumni, and faculty! There is a saying that you are known by the company you keep and as you will read in this edition of the Center’s Focus, our students, faculty, and alumni were involved with a multitude of industry professionals.

Whether in a traditional classroom, in the classroom we call New York City, or on one of nine NYU campuses around the globe, Tisch Center students are learning to be thoughtful professionals while engaging with leaders, working on applied projects, or studying new technology and cultures. Our goal is for our students to be “in and of the City,” while developing skills, abilities, and networks that will be of continuing value throughout their careers.

At the very heart of who we are, you will find an involved alumni society. Throughout the year, alumni have served as mentors to our students, guest lecturers, and participated in orientation and special events.

Our full-time faculty conducted industry research, participated in conferences, guided our student clubs, authored articles and books, and served as faculty-in-residence, a university initiative designed to connect faculty and students within the residence halls.

In a series of focus groups, our administrators participated with industry leaders and advisory board members discussing relevant trends and topics. The information gathered will be used to guide the development of our professional and summer institute courses.

Among all this, the Center moved to a new home at 838 Broadway. It is spacious, filled with natural light—a place that reflects the collective energy of the dynamic community known as the Tisch Center.
