Faculty News Spotlight on Professor Wayne McDonnell

Indicative of NYU Tisch Center’s core values, its full-time faculty are active inside and outside the classroom. Clinical assistant professor Wayne McDonnell has completed a busy and rewarding year.

As faculty advisor of the Sports Business Society, he oversaw the Society’s successful production of two internship fairs, four newsletters, and its first Sports Business Society Awards Ceremony in April.

In February, McDonnell was presented with an award for outstanding service to the Preston Robert Tisch Center by Divisional Dean Lalia Rach and NYU-SCPS Dean Robert Lapiner.

Continuing a long-standing Tisch Center tradition of establishing integrated relationships with industry, McDonnell developed an opportunity for graduate students in the sports business program to analyze and use real data from the Staten Island Yankees to identify and develop revenue strategies for a successful minor league baseball franchise. McDonnell’s students also had an opportunity to discuss the business of sports with various executives from the Brooklyn Cyclones, the National Tennis Center, and the National Lacrosse League. So that they could study a sports facility’s “back-of-house” operations firsthand, his graduate students visited the National Tennis Center and Richmond County Bank Ball Park.
