Student Clubs Roundup 2007-2008

Hospitality Business Society

Formerly known as the Pineapple Society, the Hospitality Business Society (HBS) is an undergraduate student organization for students from the Tisch Center’s B.S. program in Hotel and Tourism Management.

This year, the Society launched a student mentorship program that paired upperclassmen with underclassmen, to cultivate greater community and help the younger students adjust to life at New York University.

In February, the HSMAI-NYU student group (Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International, a special interest group of the HBS) partnered with Bloomingdale’s to run the Bloomingdale’s Marketing & Dress for Success event at its SoHo location. The event began with a presentation by the store’s tourism marketing team about the importance of tourism and hospitality brands in New York City to Bloomingdale’s worldwide marketing efforts. In April, HSMAI-NYU and HBS members conducted the third annual Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International’s Intercollegiate Conference.

Sports Business Society

The Sports Business Society (SBS) is the undergraduate student organization for the Center’s B.S. program in Sports Management and Leisure Studies.

SBS was again recognized for its outstanding community service efforts with a prestigious NYU President’s Service Award. For the second year in a row, SBS worked on the Amercian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life campaign. Through the sponsorship of events—such as the Coaches v. Cancer Tournament at Madison Square Garden and a Video Game Tournament at the NYU Kimmel Center—and other initiatives, the club surpassed its goal by raising more than $8,000.
