B.S. in Hotel and Tourism Management

CURRICULUM

The Tisch Center's B.S. in Hotel and Tourism Management program offers an innovative, interdisciplinary curriculum that blends a classic liberal arts education at one of the world’s greatest research institutions with professional development, networking, and skills in areas such as hotel finance, sales and marketing, special events, and tourism planning. In concert with the academic excellence and hospitality experience of the faculty, the program is designed to shape independent and creative thinkers prepared to thrive in global business environments. From your first semester at NYU, you personally interact with hotel and tourism business leaders, and receive individual attention and support from faculty mentors and academic advisers

LIBERAL ARTS CORE COURSES
Nearly half of the B.S. in Hotel and Tourism Management curriculum includes the foundation of NYU’s globally renowned liberal arts and sciences. In your first two years, you will take courses in writing, communication, mathematics, economics, and the natural and social sciences, among other subjects, along with other NYU undergraduates, on the Washington Square campus and perhaps abroad. You also begin taking courses toward your major with fellow Tisch Center hospitality students. This prescribed sequence is thoughtfully designed to heighten cultural awareness, sharpen critical reading and writing skills, and encourage creative and logical thinking.

MAJOR CORE COURSES
Companies that seek Tisch Center students are both new and established hospitality, tourism, and specialized organizations with a need for effective leaders who communicate clearly, make challenging decisions, and solve complex problems. Embedded within your 68 credits of professional study, experiential learning at one of our teaching hotels – the New York Marriott Marquis and The Waldorf=Astoria – in New York City gives you a distinct advantage over graduates from other hospitality schools in this highly competitive field. Major coursework includes applied research, accounting, human resources, leadership, and an integrated, progressive series of business development and professional seminar courses.

CONCENTRATIONS
As juniors, you choose to specialize in one of three concentrated areas of study: Event Management, Marketing and Revenue Management, or Organizations and Operations.

INTERNSHIPS
Required junior and senior experiences in the professional world through our 700-hour internship program allow you to connect with the sports industry and apply what you’ve learned in the classroom to a rich business environment. Rather than build a practice laboratory on campus, the Tisch Center and its advisory board, student organizations, and alumni society collaborate with New York City’s leading hotel brands and tourism enterprises to provide engagement and opportunity for meaningful internship experiences.

PROFESSIONAL ELECTIVES
Professional elective courses in business, including advanced seminar and emerging issues, among flexible selections from other concentrations, will complete your senior year experience in hotel and tourism management.
