If you are excited by great content across many platforms (books, magazines, video, web, and more), and if you see yourself working inside a media company in the near future, then the NYUSPS MS in Publishing: Digital and Print Media may be right for you. This is a targeted, 42-credit master’s degree that focuses on book, magazine, and digital media and emphasizes a well-rounded approach to all aspects of the industry. Your studies will introduce you not only to the content creation aspects of publishing, but also to the business functions necessary to succeed.

You will be taught by a renowned faculty of top industry leaders (publishers; editors in chief; marketing, digital, and publicity directors; and more). Guest speakers from top publishing companies provide valuable learning and networking opportunities, as does a full schedule of industry visits to book, magazine, and digital media companies.
In addition, you will receive a global perspective on the publishing industry, as students are invited to apply for media-related volunteer opportunities around the world. In recent years, students have volunteered at conferences and book fairs in Rome, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, Frankfurt, London, and Shanghai. The program also is known for its strong emphasis on internships and career support via panels, workshops, mock interview sessions, résumé reviews, and other opportunities that help students to achieve their career goals. The annual career fair, attended by around 35 top media companies, is an excellent way to pursue a wide range of jobs in the industry.
Classes are scheduled Monday through Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. during the fall and spring semesters. During the summer, classes are held on the same days from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Very! You can enroll as a part-time (6 to 9 credits) or full-time (10.5 to 12 credits) student, and you are free to change the number of credits you take each semester, depending on your time and resources.
We encourage students to seek positions in the industry as soon as they enter the program. The NYU Wasserman Center for Career Development at NYUSPS, another excellent resource, helps students by providing them with regular job postings. Our students find positions in all sectors of the industry: books, magazines, and digital media. Depending on how much experience students have coming into the program, it is fair to say that, early on, most work in entry-level positions, for example, as editorial, marketing, and production assistants, or online as web editors and assistant producers. However, our alumni find that having a graduate degree from this program helps them to advance quickly in the industry.
To apply, complete the online application and submit it, accompanied by your résumé; a personal statement; official transcripts from all colleges you’ve attended; two letters of recommendation from professors, internship advisers, or employers; and a $150 nonrefundable application fee.International students also are required to submit TOEFL scores. Most of our students elect to live off campus; however, on-campus housing is available to graduate students. Spaces are typically open to students attending the program full-time. The Center for Publishing offers various departmental scholarships to eligible students who are enrolled for at least six program credits and meet specific criteria.
