Opportunities and Outcomes

In addition to work in the classroom, students will have a wide range of opportunities to help them prepare for and experience the many faces of publishing, both in New York and around the world. From the first semester in the program, students will be invited to participate in a number of professional development programs including career panels and counseling sessions, mock interviews, and an annual career fair. Regular visits to major book, magazine, and digital media companies, as well as opportunities to volunteer at industry conferences in New York and internationally, provide students with an understanding of how media companies work. The for-credit internship further helps students expand their knowledge of the publishing industry and gain hands-on experience and credentials in major media companies.

Opportunities include:

To help students with the financial obligations of their studies, the MS in Publishing: Digital and Print Media offers departmental scholarships available to students beginning with their first semester in the program. These scholarships are awarded based on merit and number of credits.

Publishing Student Association

The Publishing Student Association (PSA) is another important way students gain industry experience and interaction. Officers are elected by the student body and work together to plan a roster of event each semester, including community service projects, social activities, and professional development programs. In addition, the PSA oversees a mentorship program for incoming students.
