The Summer Publishing Institute (SPI) immerses students in an intense, six-week study of books and digital/magazine media. For more than forty years, the NYU Summer Publishing Institute has helped aspiring publishers achieve their dreams. The program combines workshops, strategy sessions, and presentations by some of the leading figures in publishing. Our faculty members and speakers introduce students to the editorial, marketing, creative, business, sales, and digital aspects of the industry. The program also places a large emphasis on using content creation and business strategies in a wide range of media brands and platforms.

This intensive program is taught by faculty members who are top professionals in the industry, including CEOs, publishers, editors, digital strategists, literary agents, video producers, designers, marketers, and publicists. Classroom learning includes lectures, workshops, and hands-on strategy sessions in subjects like cover design, video shooting and editing, app development, manuscript editing, social media marketing, creating effective websites, and content creation. In addition, learning outside the classroom takes place during visits to major book publishing houses, magazine media companies, and digital content companies across New York City.

The Summer Publishing Institute is designed for recent college graduates and for young professionals who are interested in careers in book and magazine media publishing.

**SPI Open to Rising College Seniors **

SPI is now available to qualified undergraduate students who will have completed their junior year before entering the program. We understand that many undergraduates want to jump-start their publishing education early and then begin a career in the field once they graduate. For more information on requirements and how to apply, please see page 18 of our online brochure. NOTE: This option is ONLY for those undergraduates entering their senior year in Fall 2019.

“SPI gave me context for the many ways one can work in publishing. It demystified nearly everything about an industry that felt natural for me to pursue as an English major. I owe my foot in the door in this industry to this program.”
