Vast changes have characterized the galleries, dealers and artists involved in art business in the last sixty years since the worldwide ascendance of contemporary American art. Explore the principal changes in art business from 1950 until the present with an emphasis on the New York art world. Topics include dominant art movements and artists, the rise of "art neighborhoods" in NYC, the demise of art dealing as "a gentleman's business", the development and fall of corporate collecting, auction house practices over the years, the effects of the art fair phenomenon, computer technology and globalization.
