Through slide lectures and two walks, examine Western architecture over the last 200 years. Does architecture have its own language? How have arts and sciences had an impact on architecture? To answer these and other questions, discuss the period's most important figures: William Morris, Henry Hobson Richardson, Louis Sullivan, Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, Walter Gropius, and Frank Lloyd Wright, among others. Learn about Greek and Gothic Revivals, the influence of the Industrial Revolution, the skyscraper, the Arts and Crafts movement, art nouveau, the Bauhaus, art deco, the international style, and postmodernism.
