Psychology of Philanthropy

Credit: Philanthropy and Fundraising

This course examines the psychology of philanthropy, analyzing motivations, attitudes about money, preferences, and satisfactions of donors; the roots of altruism; and issues of donor burnout and fatigue. Attention is also given to psychological theories and how they may be applied to fundraising and grantmaking, as well as factors such as donor personality types and social psychology. Students will learn how to apply theory directly to fundraising strategy.
