Recent United Nations conferences and agreements on human rights (1993), population (1994) and women (1995), have been followed by stronger national and international women's rights initiatives, especially in countries and regions with traditionally less vigorous civil movements, and by increased networking among women's advocacy NGOs worldwide. This course focuses on the structure and activities of women's groups and networks working at national and international levels. Lectures address issues salient in women's movements, such as violence ad honor crimes, sexual and reproductive rights and the role of religious fundamentalism.
