Plays With a Social Conscience

Continuing Education: Humanities and Performing Arts

Examine how eight well-known playwrights bring moving, memorable stories to the stage and illuminate the injustices evident in cultures and communities. Issues of gender, race, and class are given special focus in this course as students read the works of George Bernard Shaw, Arthur Miller, Caryl Churchill, Charles Fuller, Larry Kramer, Athol Fugard, Lynn Nottage, and Lisa Ramirez. Students are expected to participate actively in class discussions.
