PHRE1-CE9106 / $430
SPRING 2012
Continuing Education: Humanities and Performing Arts

Examine some of the ways in which real life issues invite philosophical reflection. Case studies are employed to ground class discussions and philosophical texts hone students' thinking. Topics include the idea of a meaningful life, the nature of happiness, the nature of love, the point of marriage, and how to think about ethical conflicts. Case studies are derived from Lou Marinoff's Plato, Not Prozac! and the literature on experimental philosophy. Traditional philosophical texts may include selections from Plato, Aristotle, Aquinas, Hume, Mill, Kant, Anscombe, Nussbaum, and Foot.
