Advanced Marketing: Strategic Applications and Case Studies

Building upon the knowledge in Introduction to Principles of Marketing and Branding, this course provides students with hands-on applications of specific marketing problems across multiple platforms, including books, magazines and digital publishing. Each class will be conducted from a workshop and case study viewpoint. Each week, students will address an important marketing strategy and seek solutions. A major emphasis will be placed upon the role of search engine marketing in all publishing segments. Other examples of topics that will be addressed in this course include: marketing books through tours and satellite tours; market segmentation; database marketing; website and blog marketing; custom publishing; cause marketing; lifetime value analysis; optimization; event marketing; and membership marketing strategies. Students will produce actual marketing plans for these and other segments of the marketplace.
