Continuing Education: Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management

Organizations spend millions of dollars to achieve specific objectives through special events. This course demonstrates professional practices used to create special events that meet client goals. Event planners learn to employ creative ideas while developing a theme and planning for a variety of events, incorporating site selection, decor, activities, and food and drink. Planners also learn the essentials to effectively manage volunteers and VIPs, negotiate with sponsors and vendors, manage projects and budgets, and minimize risk. Required texts include Special Events: A New Generation and the Next Frontier by Joe Goldblatt (6th Edition, John Wiley & Sons, 2011) and The International Dictionary of Event Management by Joe Goldblatt, Kathleen Nelson (2nd Edition, John Wiley & Sons, 2001).
