Sports Economics

Credit: Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management

This course will analyze and evaluate economics as applied to the sports industry. Among the areas to be discussed are analyzing consumers, teams, players, management, and venues in the context of local, regional and global economies; sports business cycles; substitution and complementary goods and services, and the effects of government, taxation and regulation, inflation.

Course Objectives:
By the end of this course, each student should be able to:
  1. Analyze the concept of small versus large markets.

  2. Comprehend the political and businesses issues surrounding facility subsidization.

  3. Interpret the effect of broadcast and content distribution on the economics of sports.

  4. Illustrate the value of a player to a team

  5. Explain the interaction of domestic and international economics of sports.

  6. Assess the effects of taxation, government and regulation and their effects on sports.

None
