Credit: Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management

This course will explore the various media activities and the public relations processes in the sports business. In this course, subjects to be examined include: the role of communications in management of the sports business including community relations, crisis management policy development and corporate communications; writing and distributing press releases; building relationships and working with various forms of media; conducting interviews; effective use of print, television, and Internet media.

Course Objectives:
By the end of this course, each student should be able to:
  1. Analyze media public relations campaigns.

  2. Prepare press releases.

  3. Conduct a public release interview.

  4. Organize media and public relations as a management function in the sports business.

  5. Identify target audiences for media campaigns across the business, government, and social sectors.

  6. Design a media campaign for a sports organization.
