SUMMER 2012
Continuing Education:
Writing and Speech
This intensive four-day program teaches beginning and intermediate-level writers the fundamentals of storytelling as they focus on fiction writing, memoir writing, or screenwriting. Under the direction of a successful writer-teacher in their chosen area of concentration, students immerse themselves in writing, attending two 3-hour sessions a day; each session features lectures on craft, writing exercises, and directed readings or screenings of relevant works. One evening, a guest speaker discusses the connections and commonalities between prose and film storytelling. Two receptions (one of them following a student reading) provide students with the opportunity to connect with faculty and with each other in an informal setting. Saturday afternoon features a presentation on applying to graduate programs in writing.
Students must register for Workshop I: Fiction Writing, Workshop II: Memoir Writing, or Workshop III: Screenwriting.
For information, call Adam Sexton, associate director of Arts, Humanities, and Writing, at (212) 998-7279. Enrollment strictly limited to 18 students per workshop; register as soon as possible. No grades issued.
