This comprehensive, slide-illustrated series surveys Western painting, sculpture, and architecture from ancient times to the 17th century. Major movements, styles, and masterpieces are identified and placed in historical context. Examine works not only as aesthetic objects, but as reflections of people, place, and period. Sessions cover prehistoric art; art of ancient Egypt, the Aegean, and Greece; Etruscan, Roman, early Christian, and Byzantine art; and Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance art. A visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art is planned.
