The work of the great impressionist painters presents innovative visions of the City of Light--its neighborhoods, landmarks, street scenes, and inhabitants. In this course, study the work of the impressionists against the historical backdrop of rapid political and social change. Examine both famous and lesser-known works by Manet, Monet, Renoir, Degas, and others, and appreciate both their intrinsic beauty and their expression of a specific historical and cultural context.
