Arts Programs
For the last thirty years, each decade in the art world has been an era unto itself, with a specific business climate, rules of conducting business, and challenges. This course explores a series of art business topics by focusing on specific artists, galleries, and business environments. For each case, topics include the interaction of the art market with the general business climate, the causes of the rise and fall of particular artists and regions, and the dynamics of collecting. Subjects include a 1977 Soho gallery, the 1980s Cindy Sherman phenomenon, a corporate art collection at work, artists' widows and artists' estates, and museums today.
