X03.9466 / $360
SPRING 2010
Continuing Education: Arts Programs

Wendell Garrett, a leading writer on American antiques history, takes us through a tour of prominent ages in American furniture and decorative arts. The course, not-to-be missed by all those interested in antiques, art history, art appraisal, and American history, covers not only the objects themselves but an examination of social, political, and architectural contexts which heightens appreciation. Students learn how different stylistic eras arose, what was going on in American culture at the time, how American craftsmen, builders, and architects were influenced by the latest European styles, and what home-grown styles were developed in the United States.
