Continuing Education:
Arts Programs
This course introduces the major periods, artistic styles, and production techniques that characterize Chinese art. Incorporating recent archaeological information and current scholarship, trace the evolution of Chiense art history from ancient ceramics, jades, and bronzes to the development of paintings and calligraphy through to later sculpture and decorative arts. Investigate the dynamic work of contemporary artists--what are Chinese artists creating now, how does this material reflect ancient traditions and modern concerns, and how do we evaluate this new art? Field trips to a gallery and a major museum are planned.
