Museum Management in the 21st Century

This course introduces the principles and practices of museum management. Sessions cover museum leadership and strategic planning; staffing, curating, and exhibition design; educational programming; building and facilities management; fundraising and development; docent and volunteer training; and public relations. Topics include acquiring and deaccessioning works of art; conservation and restoration issues; and the role of the museum in contemporary society. Guest speakers and a field trip are planned.

 

Ten-session arts administration elective.
