SPRING 2010
Continuing Education:
Arts Programs
Although assessing the value of objects involves connoisseurship and experience, science is increasingly being called upon to aid in appraising objects. Advances in technology give scientists--and the appraisers using their services--a new range of tools to assess provenance and authenticity, from microscopy, spectroscopy, and direct-dating to other methods for studying the internal structure of objects. In this course, learn about the principal methods used in the field as science investigates the age, attribution, and authenticity of art objects.
