This course offers a solid introduction to the Mandarin language. In 51 hours of classroom instruction and six hours of guided field trips, you learn basic vocabulary and grammar and engage in elementary conversation. Through visits to Chinese neighborhoods in New York City, you practice the language, sample the cuisine, and experience the culture. No prior knowledge of Mandarin is required. This course is an excellent introduction for people who plan to travel to China or participate in study-abroad programs. Low-cost dormitory housing and meal plan options may be available.
