Explore some of the major issues in contemporary Africa through its literature and cinema. Students analyze how African writers and filmmakers portray their society and how their works impact historical, political, and social challenges. Students read novels by African writers and articles from online African newspapers. Excerpts from the novels and scenes from the films are analyzed in depth and provides a discussion platform, all in French. Learning French through African literature and cinema is a great way to be exposed to French history from the colonial period to the present time, to better understand the social upheavals in France today, and to be more cognizant of the social and political landscape when traveling or working in African countries.
