If you want to write fiction but need to develop your basic writing skills and techniques, this class is for you. We examine the fundamentals of fiction: plot, setting, theme, viewpoint, dialogue, and character. Writing assignments help you mine your life experiences to use as material for your fiction pieces. Student work and the writings of various established authors are read and analyzed in class. In addition, you are encouraged to view writing as a daily activity to develop your powers of observation and to hone your skills by writing a variety of sketches.
