FALL 2009
Continuing Education:
Writing and Speech
The role of the travel writer is to go one step beyond the realm of the average tourist. Learn how to do just that, from pre-trip research and spotting a story while on the road to making the perfect pitch to magazine editors and writing a publishable piece. Consider story ideas and the elements of good--and not-so-good--travel writing, debunk some myths of travel writing, create structure for your story, discuss the business side of travel writing, and do in-class writing exercises. Students workshop their writing at least twice during the semester and include a story pitch along with their submission.
