SPRING 2008
The current movement of people across borders has led to an explosion of literature combining memoir, travel writing, and journalism. Whether living abroad as ex-pats, new immigrants to the U.S., or descendants of ethnic groups returning to the homeland, describing the experience of living in another culture requires a special way of thinking and writing. Through descriptions of sights, sounds, smells, and tastes, you learn to write pieces with a sense of place. We use memory techniques to conjure the emotions experienced living or traveling overseas. Bring notes, photographs, and other travel mementos to the first class.
