Continuing Education:
Writing and Speech
The current rise of the "global citizen" has led to an explosion of literature combining travel writing, memoir, and journalism. For ex-pats, immigrants, and others, describing the experience of living in another culture requires a special way of thinking and writing. Through descriptions of sights, sounds, smells, and tastes, students learn to write pieces with a sense of place. Use memory techniques to conjure the emotions experienced living or traveling overseas, and read the work of writers including Khaled Hassein, Pico Iyer, and Bill Bryson. Bring notes, photographs, and other travel mementos to the first class.
No grades are issues for this course.
