SPRING 2010
Continuing Education:
Design and Digital Arts
Design and planning may be shaped by the technical stages of proofing, printing, finishing, and binding. Getting an inaccurate proof can alter final results, so learn how to know which proofing method is the most effective and cost efficient. How a project is printed impacts proofing and finishing options, so various printing methods will be reviewed, such as digital, letterpress, offset and gravure. Understand standardized formats, such as signatures and envelopes; standard folds, such as accordion and gatefold; and see demonstrations on how to specify paper or special substrates. Learn about special inks, such as Pantone match color, metallic or fluorescent. Consider the environmentalyl friendly option of aqueous coating and binding options, such as saddle stitch, perfect, and sewn. Appreciate how careful specifications can improve your results.
