Philanthropy and Fundraising
This course enables fundraisers, board members, staff, and volunteers of nonprofit tax-exempt organizations to develop knowledge of the legal and ethical considerations of fundraising. Topics include the regulation of fundraising and innovative fundraising techniques; charitable registration; forming and maintaining a nonprofit corporation; acquiring and maintaining tax-exempt status; corporate governance and the duties, responsibilities, and potential liabilities of members, the board of directors, and staff; and standards of professional conduct for fundraisers. We also examine such diverse current issues as unrelated business income, corporate sponsorship, and political and lobbying activities.
