Continuing Education:
Career, Education, and Life Planning
Seeing children daily gives professional childcare providers the opportunity to observe their behavior, development, and appearance over an extended period of time. As a provider, you may be the first to suspect and report child abuse or maltreatment. Focus on the nature and indicators of abuse and maltreatment, objective observation and knowing what determines "reasonable cause to suspect," the responsibility of being a mandated reporter and how to report, and providing resources to families to prevent abuse. Personal, legal, and moral concerns regarding providers' responsibilities are discussed. Case studies are presented.
