Through lectures, readings, role-play, and small group discussions, this course applies mediation and conflict management skills to family breakdown and divorce. Special emphasis is given to relationship restructuring, as well as dealing with issues of hostile, angry, and emotional people. Class covers the psychological, financial, legal, social, and procedural dynamics of family and divorce mediation. Topics include: screening for power imbalances, domestic violence, ethics, economic impact of separation, child and spousal support, and property divisions.
