In this practical, hands-on course, students develop marketable proofreading skills as they learn proofreader's marks and basic editorial skills, explore the role of the proofreader in the editing and production process, and discuss the process of working with copy editors and designers. Topics also include proofing against a manuscript, working with a style sheet, cold proofing, proofreading responsibilities in an electronic environment, proofing on screen versus proofing on hard copy, and proofing electronically generated or scanned material.
Students must have fluency in English and proficiency in grammar.
