Enterprise leaders face tough new laws and regulations regarding information management at a time when the technologies and business uses of information are becoming more complex. This course examines how a wide range of regulations and standards are guiding enterprise information systems and technologies. Regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, Gramm Leach Billey Act, and California privacy laws have a direct bearing on control objectives related to security, records management, and privacy. Other regulations and standards provide more specific guidance; for example, information security controls outlined by the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) and records management controls indicated by ISO 15489. These disparate requirements challenge compliance managers to search out, and in many cases construe, broad responsibilities related to defining objectives.
